SEO Quick Tip1. Search engines are people not computers

Here is a novel idea. Search engines are made by people. Don’t try to cheat with SEO. Its a short term gain for a long term failure. Make your website interesting and target a particular topic to write about. Don’t just get hundreds of links back from directory’s that are not relevent to your topic.

What is SEO? Search engine optimisation?

Search engine optimisation Worcester

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a process that makes your website interesting to all the search engines. When I say interesting I mean attractive, likeable and friendly. Search engines like relevent text and they like the text to be logical and relevant to the page it is on. An example would be a website page with the title Brown bears in canada. The text should be about brown bears in canada not black bears in america. The keywords for the page should be about brown bears and canada and the links back to the page from text on other websites about brown bears in canada. Search engine optimisation is all about relevance. Search engines are trying to make a list about all the best websites that talk about brown bears in Canada, they do not want a page in the index about Black bears in america when someone types in.

Brown bears in Canada.

Web Design – There is more to good web design than how it looks

I have seen web design change over the last fifteen years. When it all started we we limited with HTML and static websites. Then macromedia flash (now adobe Flash) changed everything. Now apple has decided not to support flash everything has changed again. One thing that has not changed, and never will in my opinion is the need for simple navigation and logical web page design. Web design is not just about the site looking good its about the construction of all the elements to make it easy to use, quick to load and easy to find on search engines such as google. The need for pages that download quickly is more important than ever now as mobile devices such as the ipad are viable alternatives to a standard computer. 3G may offer faster download but as you will see, its not broadband level.

How many websites do you need?

If your entire business is based on the web then I would recommend a second website on a separate hosting account in a different country. The old saying ‘What can happen will happen’ always rings true with me. From personal experience I had a website hosted with one of the biggest hosting firms in the U.S. There was a fire at the data centre and our server was taken out. The company was backing our site up to a remote server at a different site. It took three weeks to get back online, we lost allot of sales from this. I now have a few sites and so I can always get leads and sales from either site, I can direct customers to which ever site is live.

Who do I host my New Website with?

Hosting is a very important decision as well as which country to host your website. If you are hosting your website in the u.k on a .co.uk domain name then I would suggest giving us a call first. Hosting is not just about price. Performance and reliability are the most important things to consider when purchasing your new hosting package. Your website needs to be live 100% of the time (or as near as you can get it). If your website is down for 1 week and you are getting all your leads and traffic from it then you are in trouble. We recommend two websites for a business to give a backup if one goes down. The second website does not have to be fancy just functional to give your customers contact with you.

Choosing the right Domain Name for your website

Choosing the right domain name is very important. If you live in the U.K always register a .co.uk domain name and host your website on a .co.uk if you plan to target the u.k for business. Google seems to like the .co.uk domain name if you are based in the u.k. If you are in business all over the world (online shop selling global) then it is best to go for a .com. Choosing the right words for your domain name is becoming harder as more names are taken. My advice is to give us a call and we can look into the best direction for the words in your domain name. It is no accident you have reached this page of worcesterwebsites blog. We have found over the past few years using the city of your business in your domian name can give you better local listings in google. I think this may be changing slowly now as google is onto this little technique. We offer domain name registration and consultation about choosing the right domain name as part of our online marketing.

Give me a call for a free consultation.
